How to Use Google Drive

   In my last post, I will introduce how to use cloud computing service. Among many cloud services, I choose Google drive because we studied about Google's variety functions.

  First, for overall understanding of Google drive, watch following video.

<Procedure>

 1. Click the drive menu on Google homepage and go to Google drive page.

2. And then download Google drive to your PC

3. To use Google drive, you need Google account.

↓

4. After downloading, you can confirm the new folder, Google Drive.
  

5. Now, you are ready to use Google drive. If you copy or save file on that folder, the file is automatically synchronized with your  own Google drive.

Problem of Three Main Cloud Storage Service

   In this post, let's look at the problems of three main cloud storage services, Dropbox, Google drive and icloud.

Fix Ya, technical support website, did a survey to users and analyzed problems of above services. 

1.Dropbox

Dropbox has over one hundred million users and a billion files are uploaded and saved in their site each day.

Dropbox can be used in almost operating systems such as desk top window, OS X, Linux, black berry (mobile device), Android, ios etc.

However, it has security problem. Actually, in this summer their site was hacked and lost some information of users.

2. Google Drive  

  Google drive, relatively, has better security system. However, the users of Google drive point out its synchronization  problem. 

They said, during the process, the file wasn't uploaded successfully and even the folder disappeared. 

3. icloud

 icloud can't be compatible with other devices, so only users of apple device can use it, only. 

Plus, the price of cloud storage is higher than other services.

Mobile Cloud Computer

    With a prediction that one trillion internet-connected devices by 2015, mobile cloud computing is said to the next level of it.  

 Mobile cloud computing is the usage of cloud computing in combination with mobile devices. Even though the mobile cloud is still in its infancy, there are some features we have to know.

  The one thing is that mobile cloud will change how we work. It offers more ways to work and there is no limitation of place. 

   Plus, the life of people would be change. In mobile cloud computing circumstance, all IT devices can be infrastructure, giving information or data to users, of it.

  Many people thought cloud computing is future of web. However, because of the rapid development of smart phone market, cloud computing becomes the future of mobile industry.

Cloud Game

  Cloud computing also applies to game industry as well. Cloud game is little unfamiliar to people yet, but game companies speak very highly of it.

 - People enjoy cloud game regardless of platform like smart phone, smart TV and PC. 

 - People don't need to install the game, because the game is done actually in specific server.

 - They expect the network will be getting better, so the cloud game market will be grower.  

 

  The popular company including Sony, LG U+,NTT DOCOMO, already started service.

  In Korea, 'CJ hellovision' started cloud game service based on TV platform and LG U+ started their service with the name, C-games. In C-games, there are 24 games with variety of genres and their price is variously by different using time.     

  - In this situation, government announced that they will cut the tax of investment cost of foreign company on cloud game industry.

Price cutting of Cloud Service

The three main cloud service companies, Google, Amazon and Microsoft, started competition of cost drop.

-Google started it at first and Amazon follow their movement.

-They announced a 20 percent  price drop of their cloud storage.

-Amazon takes part in this competition with strategy of discounting 3S(Simpe Storage Service) pricing and a new partnership with NetApp.

  -Plus, recently, Microsoft joined this competition and they announced 28 percent price drop on their cloud service, Azure.

  -But, the price cutting is for not general storage service, but back-up service. Back-up storage is used when the general storage has problem.

  -Some expert says that company should focus on making variety service or function of cloud computing not just cutting down the price. 

  -They insist that ideal way is offering their general service with lower price and providing differentiated service.

The introduction of Cloud Computing System on Government Agency

 -Recently, Deltic, IT consulting company expected that Obama's second government will make more investment to change their IT system to cloud computing system. 

-Because of its advantage(I explained it before), the US government announced 'cloud first policy' to make cost-effectiveness before. 

-Actually, until now, 4 main departments finished changing to cloud computing system. Especially, SEC(Securities and Exchange commission) reduce 75 percent of the time to solving specific matter.

 -Therefore, US government said that they will invest 25 percent of their year's budget on IT industry.

-In this situation, Korea also decide to introduce cloud computing system on their government agencies.

The Example of Using Cloud Computing Service

  Let's take a look at some example of using cloud service.

  These days, because of its advantages, many company, even government organization, try to using cloud service.

  Representative examples of this situation can be find in following companies.

1. Coca-Cola Enterprises(CCE)

  There are 431 production facilities and about 72,000 staffs work for CCE in the world. Therefore, this mega-corporation need some systems to take measures on the line, to contact to their staff of factory, to give and combine information quickly.

  However, it costs considerable sum of money to make the system to manage those works. Consequently, CCE  use Microsoft online service(MS cloud). Through the flat-form offered by MS cloud, CCE can do on-line conference and cooperative work. In addition, they could reduce the expense of business trip and increase productivity.

2.  3M

  3M has 75,000 staffs in more than 60 nations in the world.

 3M had a problem of feed-back. Because they can't notice people's thought on their product before its releasing, they want to solve it. 

  3M decided to use MS cloud. One of functions of MS cloud, Window Azure is a flat-form which allows installing of applications in their cloud circumstance.

  Therefore, 3M made design and upload it to their application. And then, customers download the app and evaluate the design. 3M can confirm it through cloud service and save the information on server and they can load it anytime, anywhere. It brings cost-efficiency on marketing strategy.

Advantage of Cloud Computing System

  What is strong point of cloud computing system?

  In this post I will explain about two main advantages of cloud computing system.

1. Cost of maintenance.

   By using cloud service, we reduce the cost of maintaining mass storage of data. Because the data is protected in the secure data centers of company, we don't need to invest another money to solve security problem and to construct IT system. 

 Actually, this feature is more beneficial to company user than individual user. 

 For example, in last US presidential election, Romney camp deal with their information and data with one IT company, but Obama use amazon cloud format to use their data. And then it will bring cost-efficiency.

Riskness of Cloud Computing System

  Cloud computing is very helpful. Many experts anticipate cloud service will lead post PC age. USB is less used and ,wherever and whenever, if we can access internet, we can use our materials.

   However, there is a critical danger in cloud computing system.It is Hacking. Not long ago, KT, big telecommunications company, and NATE, big portal site, even Nonghub, big national bank, was hacked and it made outflow of information.

  The more people use cloud service and save their data, the bigger the danger of it becomes. If your information is exposed to hackers, your documents can be deleted or copied. This problem can cause serious problem. 

  Plus, if the internet is not available, the person who rely on the cloud service can't any works. This is very critical limitation of cloud computing service. In this point of view, cloud computing still can't replace USB's function perfectly. 

Lastly, it can bring monopoly of specific company. Today, cloud market is developing, so many services are cheap and easy to use it. However, the cloud industry is done by company not nation. Therefore, some day when people rely on their service very much, they can take measures to get more money. 

Domestic Service vs Foreign Service

   Last time, I posted about domestic and foreign cloud service. Nowadays, there are many services so the competition in cloud market is very intense. In this situation, how we choose proper service for us? 

   There are some features between domestic and foreign service. 

   One thing is the technical level. In comparing foreign company which offer cloud service like Google, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, domestic companies have inferior technical development. Photo streaming, synchronization service, making documents etc, these service is limited in domestic cloud service. Domestic service mainly focus on the function of store.

   However, foreign service also has some limitation in using. Some services still don't offer the translated service, English into Korean. Therefore, there are difficulties in understanding the service. Plus, between domestic and foreign service, there is a broad distinction in storage capacity. Most of the foreign services offer storage of 5GB, basically. However domestic service offer 30GB to 50GB for their users. This distinction is significant, so, in Korea, many people are using domestic cloud service.
